According to the Wind Technologies Market Report issued by the US Department of Energy (DOE) written by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)the US is continuing to lead the world as the fastest-growing wind power market.

Since 2005 the US has led the world in new wind capacity installations, overtaking Germany in cumulative wind capacity installations.  The 2008 edition of the Wind Technologies Market Report reports that wind farms accounted for 42% of all new electric generating capacity in the US during 2008.
