The Defense Department of the United States reviewed plans to develop renewable energy programs in 35 states and Puerto Rico.    The Pentagon said the approved projects would “clear they way for future production of more than 10 gigawatts of renewable energy generation capacity.”    The projects include more than 6,000 wind turbines and 30 different solar projects.  In the Defense Department’s review of the 249 projects, only 20 were found to have an effect on military missions.  The other projects, most of which were wind projects found on the west coast, were deemed projects “requiring further study.”
