According to a new report issued by Austin Energy on August 18, 2009, Austin Energy is recommending a reved up Climate Protection Plan which would add more renewable energy, more quickly to the City’s portfolio.  The recommendation would result in the City obtaining 36.7% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020 – an effort that would double the wind power and solor energy goals that were initially in the Plan.  The end result would yeild over 1000 MW of power from wind, over 200 MW for solor and over 150 MW from biomass.  Austin Energy is continuing to explore options of geothermal energy and expansion of on-site solar systems.
